Financial Abuse

Financial abuse is used to control and humiliate the victim as well as limit the victim’s resources for escape from the relationship. Financial abuse includes:

  • Making all financial decisions for the household
  • Keeping financial secrets
  • Monitoring the victim's spending
  • Controlling the victim's access to cash, checkbook and/or credit cards
  • Refusing to let the victim work
  • Forcing the victim to remit income to the abuser
