Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is one of the least discussed, but most common, forms of domestic violence. Sexual abuse includes:

  • Telling sexual jokes that make the victim uncomfortable
  • Objectifying women
  • Criticizing the victim's sexuality
  • Using sexual jealousy as a tool of control
  • Touching in a way that is uncomfortable or unwanted
  • Withholding sex as punishment
  • Demanding sex
  • Flaunting affairs
  • Rape
  • Forcing sex after beatings
  • Forcing the victim to witness or participate in sexual activity with others
  • Sexually assaulting the victim in front of the children
  • Engaging in sexual torture

Sex abuse in marriage is not about sex, it is about power and control. Consent means saying 'YES' when saying 'NO' is an option.
