Getting Help through the HAVEN Teen Program
HAVEN provides services to teens that are victims of teen-dating violence and sexual assault. If you are a victim of sexual assault or dating violence and are not sure what to do, call the HAVEN office. The phone call is confidential and you can get support and teen counseling that can help you through the recovery process.
Being a victim of sexual assault is not your fault. Nothing in what you say, the way you look, where you are, or whom you are with gives anyone else the right to hurt you. It does not matter if you are dating or have previously been intimate with the person who sexually assaulted you. No one has the right to force you to participate in sexual acts, even if you have had sexual activity of any sort in the past. It’s still wrong.
A survivor of sexual assault deserves to be believed, to have their feelings validated and to know they are not alone.
Consent is: A “YES” when “NO” is clearly an option. meaning when you have the freedom to say “NO” and it will be respected.
In every situation there are things you cannot compromise. These things may be important to your self-esteem, your confidence, your self-respect and your safety. Think about how you want to be treated by a dating partner. Know what you can compromise without regret and what you must protect. Always consider safe sex before you enter into any physical relationship.
